ClickPad freezes on the NP900X4C with Fedora 17

I have observed temporary freezes of the ClickPad on the Samsung NP900X4C when running Fedora 17.

What happens is that the mouse cursor freezes for several seconds and you are unable to click on the ClickPad. The problem is temporary and after the "freeze period" everything works as normal again. The packages involved in this are:

  • kernel-3.6.2-4.fc17.x86_64
  • xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.12.3-2.fc17.x86_64
  • xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.6.2-2.fc17.x86_64

According to this note on the ArchWiki, the problem seem to be related to CPU frequency scaling. The mouse driver loses sync when the CPU frequency changes.

There is no solution to this issue at the moment, only workarounds. See the ArchWiki for tips of what you can do to mitigate the problem.
